Longwood’s emergence as a national basketball power has not been the result of a single magic bullet. Instead, it has been the result of a unique curriculum, Civitae, designed to prepare students for life. And careers by teaching them to value diverse perspectives and critical thought.
The Lancers are a perfect example of how that can happen. Aldrich’s team has gone from a team that had just a 15-13 record a year ago to a 26-6 team. This season with the best Big South record in program history.
They’ve also only lost one game since Dec. 22.
The Lancers’ resurgence has been one of the most impressive runs by any coach guiding a new program this year. That eight-win improvement is more. Than any other head coach at a new Division, I program in 2021-22. And that’s on top of a record-setting 10-5 non-conference record. Adding in the fact that Longwood’s three leading scorers are battle-tested seniors. the Lancers will be tough to beat on Selection Sunday.
