My daughter is a dragon is a comical manga about the titular character, a young woman who is the daughter of the Chinese tycoon Fu Manchu. Despite the fact that she is the spawn of the most ruthless man in history, she is a good girl. Nevertheless, her father has other plans. The tycoon is a sucker for revenge and enlists her in his latest schemes. This turns her life upside down, as she is tasked with killing a bunch of bad guys.
Aside from the obvious title, the film is also a rousing ride thanks to its impressive cast. While Anna May Wong is the star of the show, the film is notable for the inclusion of a number of lesser known names in the Chinese American cinematic universe. Among them, Sessue Hayakawa, and Khari Evans, who will eventually go on to star in their own films.
Nevertheless, “My Daughter is a Dragon” is a decent enough movie. While the main characters are largely wooden, the rest of the cast is able to bring a lot of zing to their performances. On top of that, the film is actually a reasonably well made film, especially when it comes to the technical aspects. Unfortunately, the pacing of the film’s production is uneven and the editing is not up to par. However, there is an impressive closing reel that gives the film a nice lift.
